William Robert Smith, “Bill”, 68 of Cashiers entered into his eternal home on October 2. He was born 9/23/1957 in Elgin, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Ethel Smith as well as brothers Michael Allen, Earl David and a sister Robin Dyane. Missing him and devoted to carrying on his legacy of adventure and kindness are brothers Ron (Elaine), Jim (Renee), and Joe Smith (Mary), sisters, Donna Smith, Gina Mahrle and Debbie Goldsmith. He also has many nieces and nephews that he was very proud of and enjoyed watching them grow.
Bill was a Master Mechanic and attended Harley Davidson School where he received a 4.0.
Known for his love of the open road and the unmistakable sound of a Harley-Davidson, Bill found peace and purpose in riding and repairing motorcycles.
Bill had a gift for fixing engines and making others feel special. He enjoyed passing along his invaluable knowledge to friends. He wanted to be remembered for the many friends he had throughout his life. Whether he was helping a friend rebuild a bike, sharing a laugh or two, or enjoying a ride down a backcountry road, he did it with a deep sense of joy and community. His laugh was undeniably his and contagious. Bill knew Jesus and was confident in where he would spend eternity.
“Ride free, breathe free, Bill. The road ahead is yours.”
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
