William Kenneth “Ricky” Callahan, Jr., 60, of Asheville passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville. Born November 13, 1960 in Tampa, FL, he was the son of the late William K. Callahan and Mattie Elizabeth Blankenship. He was a graduate of Crest High School in Shelby and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He was a devout Baptist and self-employed painter for most of his life. Of the many enjoyments in life casting a line on the water, flying his drone, testing his hand at sketching, and maintaining his flower garden were among his favorites. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, John R. Callahan. Surviving are his children, Cheryl Phillips of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Christopher Greene of Anderson, SC; siblings, Sheila C. Lewis and her spouse, Don, of Candler, Beth Callahan and Cynthia Melton both of Asheville; grandchildren: Alexandria and Tiffany Greene both of Anderson, SC, Chloe and Abigail Phillips both of Myrtle Beach, SC; stepfather, James Blankenship of Candler; cousins, Johnathan Caldwell of Gastonia, and Carol Sherrill of Port St. Lucie, FL, Pamela Pittman of Inman, SC; aunt and uncle, Martha and Tommy Elmore of Lawn Dale; nephew, Cody Callahan of Asheville; and special friends, Scotty Creaseman and Brittany Garland. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 17, 2021 in the chapel of Asheville Area Alternative Funeral and Cremation Services.
