Victoria Jean (Vicky) Broadhurst, 63, of Weaverville passed from this world on Jan. 26, 2026, while being treated at Mission Hospital. She had a long history of heart conditions, among other ailments. She was born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany in 1962, while her father served in the US Army, and lived much of her life in Texas (Killeen, Commerce, Palestine), although she moved to Weaverville in 2005 to join other members of her family.
She graduated from Ansbach American HS in Germany, and from East Texas State U. in Commerce, Texas. Vicky worked as an elementary teacher and as a substance abuse counselor before she suffered a pair of catastrophic automobile accidents in the early 2000s, which required surgery to repair several broken leg bones. She was left with permanent impairments in walking, as well as other complications, and has been homebound for the last 3 years. She was admitted to River Bend Health & Rehabilitation, Asheville, in November of 2025, after several falls. Vicky enjoyed games, cards, puzzles, watching TV and swimming. She was raised as a United Methodist but was unaffiliated with any local church.
Vicky was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Broadhurst, in 2000, and by her father, Wendell Broadhurst, in 2006. She is survived by her brother, Rick Broadhurst (Jessica) of Weaverville; nephews Nate Broadhurst (Peyton; Ogden, UT), Travis Broadhurst (Albuquerque, NM) and Bryan Broadhurst (Laramie, WY); half-brother Dell Broadhurst and half-sister Sherry Gomez (both of Tallahassee, FL); aunt Jo Ann Horton and cousin Diane Anna (Paul; all of Weaverville); cousin David Horton (Austin, TX); nieces Shelly and Anabel Gomez (Tallahassee) and Aspen Broadhurst (Ogden, UT); and nephew Theo Broadhurst (Ogden, UT).
Vicky will be cremated and a memorial service is planned in the future when final arrangements are completed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the March of Dimes (PO Box 5141, Boone, IA 50950) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105)
