Vicky Walters Matthews

In the stillness of the afternoon on Thursday, June 4th, God called one of His children home to be with Him in heaven. Vicky Walters Matthews was born in Pembroke, NC on September 13, 1955, to the late Charles and Valerie Walters. Vicky was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Larry Matthews, who proceeded her in death. Her formative years were spent in Pembroke and attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Vicky loved the beaches around the Wilmington area, but soon the mountains were calling. Vicky was a member of the Groce United Methodist Church where she served on several committees. Her absolute joy was singing and took great pride in singing with her church choir and other venues. She retired from the Buncombe County School System, where she held positions as Teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal. She was recently employed as Education Director at Elida Homes. A strong advocate for children, she touched the lives of many children in the area. Vicky leaves to morn her passing a daughter Jaime, who was her pride and joy and loved dearly. Brother Bill Walters (Courtney), Greer, SC., Stepdaughter, Rachel Williams, Montreat, NC, stepson, Jeremy Matthews, Noblesville, Indiana, several nieces and nephews, and God Parents, Jeff and Molly Fout, Conway, SC. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June, 19th at 1:00 PM at Groce United Methodist Church.
