Travis Sutton Byrd

Travis Sutton Byrd passed away peacefully in Asheville, NC, on December 19 at the age of 56, surrounded by family and friends.

Travis was born on March 11, 1968, to Lynn Elwood Byrd and Edgar Leslie Byrd. He was a beloved father, son, and friend.

Travis was preceded in death by his father Edgar. He is survived by his children Elijah, Rowan, Townesend, and Isabel, by his mother Lynn, by his aunt Linda, and cousins Linwood, David, and Cameron. A cherished member of the family, he leaves behind many fond memories.

Though born in New York, he was a true Southerner at heart. He was an alum of UNCA and UNCG and considered North Carolina his home. As an avid outdoorsman, accomplished scholar, published writer, and dedicated historian, Travis shared his passion for the Appalachian Mountains and the people who lived there with all who knew him.

Ashes will be spread in Asheville by longtime friends, and a graveside service will be held in Miami later in the spring.

The family wishes to thank his many friends, and the staff at Mission Hospital for their kindness and support during his final days.
