Thomas Andrew Whittemore, 50, of Saluda, NC, sadly passed away due to heart complications on January 10, 2022. Born November 21,1971, Tom grew up in Lake Lure and was a 1990 graduate of Edneyville High School. Following graduation, Thomas enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the 1st Squadron/11th Armored Calvary Regiment, the “Blackhorse Regiment.” He was a proud Persian Gulf War Veteran, and remained close to the brotherhood after separating in 1998, always ready to answer the call to “Allons!”
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Pearl Whittemore; his wife, Melissa Sanders Whittemore; and two brothers, Robert and William Whittemore. He is survived by his loving partner, Lisa Schillig and her sons, Max and Gus; daughter, Kayla Fraley and husband, Deron; stepdaughter, Beth Davis and husband, Elijuh; two granddaughters, Kinley and Kylie Davis; two sisters, Pamela Sorrels and Lynne Allison; two brothers; Peter and Timothy Whittemore; and many nieces and nephews.
Tom will be missed beyond measure - in words, ways and memories that could never be expressed in this obituary. His love and laughter, his pleasure in sharing a good story or video, his amusement in the best memes, his sense of adventure, his enthusiasm of motorcycles, his patriotism, his pride, his hard work and dedication, and even his struggles. But Tom did it his way, and what more could one ever wish for in this life? Perhaps the best measure of Tom’s life is found in one of his favorite quotes by Hunter S. Thompson: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”
A celebration of Tom’s life is scheduled for 1:00 PM on April 30, 2022, at the Lake Lure Pavilion (Gazebo). Lake Lure Pavilion (Gazebo) | Lake Lure North Carolina (townoflakelure.com) In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Tom, to the Wounded Warrior Project
