Obituary

Sylvia Elaine Refenes, 71, of Fletcher, NC passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at her home. Born on February 18, 1952 in Clinton, NC to the late L.C. Fussell Jr. and Alene Furey.

Sylvia was an administrative assistant at the Asheville VA Medical Center. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, yoga, reading, being outdoors, walking on the beach, shell hunting, and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving Sylvia is her spouse of 40 years, Jim Refenes; daughter, Amy Nave of Springfield, OR; sisters, Wendy Lowe of Hilton Head, SC, and Cindy Melton of Shelby, NC; brother, Ken Fussell of Arden, NC; and granddaughters, Emma Kottwitz of Bristol, VA, and Bella Kottwitz of Springfield, OR.

A celebration of life will be held in October. In lieu of flowers, we ask that all donations be made in Memory of Sylvia Refenes to Four Seasons Hospice-571 S Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
