Steven Ross Duvall, 70, of Asheville, NC passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Hock Family Pavilion Hospice in Durham, NC.
Steve was born on August 9, 1954 in Victoria, TX to the late Leland Ross Duvall (2022) and Mary Ann Duvall (2013).
Steve grew up the oldest of 4 children in Overland Park, KS where he attended Shawnee Mission South High School and was very active in extracurriculars including swimming, band (excelling in trumpet), and theater. He attended the University of Kansas, where he was inducted into Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and continued to be active in music and the performing arts. As an adult, he helped raise 3 daughters and spent time living in several different cities before moving to Asheville, NC where he resided for the past 7 years with the love of his life, Shelley, and their dog, Luna. He loved hiking, swimming, snow skiing, gardening, and traveling. Steve cultivated his love for music (especially jazz) and theater throughout his life, attending many live performances over the years. He was known to many as the guy who knew where to find all the best restaurants and entertainment venues in any city he had visited. He will be very missed by all.
Surviving Steve is his wife, Shelley Duvall; daughters, Maggie Duvall (Andrew Gartrell) of Brooklyn, NY, Ellie Duvall (Tom Klein) of Berkley, MI, and Phoebe Rusie (Kevin) of Indianapolis, IN; brother, Greg Duvall (Elaine) of Kansas City, MO; sisters, Stacia Duvall (John) of Larkspur, CO and Carol Jantsch (John) of Golden, CO; grandsons, Dean and Joe Rusie of Indianapolis, IN, and George Gartrell of Brooklyn, NY.
Steven will be laid to rest with a private family service at Carolina Memorial Sanctuary in Mills River, NC. A Celebration of Life event will be held at a later date.
