Stanley Selby went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 17th, 2023 while at home, surrounded by his loving family and dear friends. Stanley was born October 1st, 1946 to the late Claude and Faye Selby in Asheville N.C. Stanley was raised in the mountains of Western North Carolina as a child and returned to raise his family in the community of Nantahala, which he dearly loved.
Stanley enjoyed many years with friends, who became like family, during his career with Nantahala Power & Light, Duke Energy, and Phillips & Jordan, Inc. The memories of coworkers, storms, challenges, and pranks brought him joy and laughter until the very end.
After retiring, Stanley drove buses for Leicester Elementary and Young's Transportation. He loved the students on his school bus and would be sure that the 4th graders had a new Bible to take with them to the Intermediate School.
In his free time, Stanley could be found fishing with his grand/great-grandchildren, gardening, working in his yard, volunteering with the local Republican Chapter, working in the hay field and farming with his beloved son-in-law and grandsons, arguing politics on Facebook, or just hanging out with his faithful companion, Maggie.
Stanley was a member of Briartown Baptist Church until moving to Leicester N.C.and joining Leicester Baptist Church. He cherished his church family and was a dedicated member. Stanley is survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlotte Selby who loved and cared for him until the very end. He was a dedicated, loyal, and faithful husband, father, and grandpa. His memory will live in the hearts of his children and their spouses: Scott & Missy Selby and Michelle & Scott Dover, his grandchildren: Elizabeth Selby (Megan), Kiona Lambert (Tyler), Delaney Cordle (Ronald), Cheyenne Patterson, Charity Selby, Rebekah Gorman (Jake), Austin Dover (Natalie), Aaron Dover, and 5 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his sisters: Ann Bartow (Bob) and Rhonda Douthit (Oscar), as well as a multitude of friends and family.
