Sheila Dean “Mimi” Bentley Bayles, 73, of Cedar Mountain passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family and friends on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Transylvania Regional Hospital. Born December 15, 1949 in Brevard, NC, Sheila was a daughter of the late William Edwin Bentley, Sr. and Lola Dean Woodward Bentley. She was a graduate of Brevard High School, Class of 67, a member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church, and a voice in the church choir.
Helping with the Cedar Mountain Community Center, working in her garden, bird watching, traveling, and spending time with her family were among Sheila’s favorite things to do. She was a wonderful mother, loving wife, and cheerful hostess. She was there for anyone in need of comfort and loved the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Allison Bentley Dobbins, Vickey Bentley Reeves, and Bobby Gene Bentley. Surviving are her spouse of 24 years, Harry “Hank” Bayles; children, Rick Pineda (Leslie), of San Antonio, TX, Carmen Pineda of Atlanta, GA, Sam Bayles (Miki) of Winston Salem, NC, and Gabriel Bayles (Garnett) of Richmond, VA; siblings, Gwen Bentley Fisher of Brevard, NC and “Bill” Bentley, Jr. (Sharon) of Brevard, NC; granddaughters, Abigail Dean Pineda of Atlanta and Kyrstin Bayles (Chris) of Greensboro N.C.; great-granddaughter, Willow Heiferman; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on March 11, 2023 at Rocky Hill Baptist Church in Cedar Mountain with the family receiving friends an hour prior. Rev. Leland Holland will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rocky Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 590, Cedar Mountain, NC 28718. The family would like to acknowledge the kind and professional doctors and nurses at Transylvania Regional Hospital.
