Sadie Sawyer Mitchell

Sadie Sawyer Mitchell 85 of Arden, North Carolina went to be with the lord peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on August 27, 2019. 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Herbert H. Mitchell Jr. of 52 years and her beloved eldest daughter Marcia Ruby; three brothers, Harry Sawyer, Roy Sawyer, Carol Sawyer and two sisters Thelma Lyda and Imogene Blackwell. 

She is survived by her children, Tommy Dean Mitchell (Deidre Payne) of Columbia, SC. Kaye Mitchell Horrell (Gene Horrell) of Arden, NC and Mark Mitchell (Judy Mitchell) of Fletcher, NC; four grand children Joseph Horrell (Shawn Horrell), Jeffrey Horrell (Camy Horrell), Lori Ruby and Lindsey Horrell Hart (Brian Hart); eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She raised a foster son Jimmy B. Mitchell who resides in California. She also leaves behind two brothers; Jim Sawyer (Birma) and Tommy Sawyer. 

Born November 17, 1933 to the late Harry and Effie Sawyer. A native of Buncombe County where she spent her entire life. 

Most of her working career was spent as a sewing machine operator. She retired from Charles D. Owen manufacturing. Upon retirement, she embarked on many different jobs only to settle into her greatest assignment, a caregiver for her eldest daughter. Sadie was the most selfless woman who never missed the opportunity to care for those in need. A true Proverbs 31 woman. 

Graveside service will be be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler at 3:00pm Friday, August 30.
