Mars Hill – Roy Lee Hensley, age 81, of Mars Hill, went home to be with his Heavenly Father Monday, February 10, 2020, with his granddaughter, Morgan, by his side.
Born February 19, 1938, to the late Frank and Vivian McIntosh Hensley of Yancey County, Roy served proudly in the United States Army and after discharging from the military was employed by Sears & Roebuck.
Roy was a friend to many and did not know a stranger. Until his decline in health, he enjoyed time spent with family, friends and neighbors, and often could be found socializing at Ogle Auto of Mars Hill. Roy was a cherished and dedicated Papaw who rarely missed school functions, VBS commencements, soccer games, birthdays, graduations, extended-family gatherings and most recently attended his great-grandson’s (Tiger’s) first birthday party. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Gordon Douglas Hensley, Billie Fred Hensley, Clarence Dean Hensley, Charles Pete Hensley and half-brother, Randy Hensley.
Surviving are his granddaughter, Morgan Hensley Fouts and husband Caleb, great-grandson Mathias Fouts (Tiger); son, Jeffrey Hensley; grandson, Seth Hensley; brothers, Edwin Hensley (Dianne), Robert Hensley (Kumcha); and a half-sister, Diane Franklin (Bruce); cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life, Thursday, February 13th at 4:00 p.m. Locust Grove Baptist Church, 305 Locust Grove Road, Weaverville, NC 28787.
A very special thanks to the staff and clergy of the Solace Center, who helped care for Roy as he made the transition from his earthly home to his heavenly home. Memorials may be made, in honor of Roy, to the Western North Carolina Bridge Foundation, PO Box 25338, Asheville NC 28813.
