Ronald Coleman Thomas

Ronald C Thomas, age 88, of Asheville, NC, passed away on March 11, 2022 after a brief illness.

Ron was born on April 19th, 1933 to Earl and Garolene Thomas in Statesville, NC. After graduating from

high school in Welcome, NC and serving his country during the Korean War, Ron continued his academic

studies and received an engineering degree due to his love of aviation. That love began as a young

person building and flying radio-controlled model airplanes and continued as a passionate hobby

throughout his life. |

While in college, Ron met and fell in love with Betsy Anne Newsome and their instant bond led to a

beautiful life filled with faith, love, and family. In addition to starting a family, their journey included Ron

spending the first part of his professional career in the Aerospace Industry which culminated with work

on the NASA Saturn program in Merritt Island, FL. After fulfilling that professional dream, Ron switched

careers and joined Honeywell where the next chapter of his life included helping raise a family in

Hopewell, VA, traveling and forging lifelong friendships in their local church. Upon retirement, the

adventure continued with a move to Asheville, NC where Ron and Betsy were blessed to find another

wonderful church, making new friends and ultimately creating everlasting memories with their family.

Besides an easy demeanor, sense of humor and sincere smile, Ron will always be remembered as a

loving husband, caring father and kind friend.

Ron is preceded in death by their son, Christopher.

Ron is survived by his wife, Betsy and remaining children: daughter Amanda, sons Marcus and Todd

along with daughter in-laws Anne and Altha and grandson Matthew.
