Robert Flewelling Holt, 90, of Asheville, NC, passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2023.
Robert was born March 31, 1933 in Takoma Park, MD to the late Russell Flewelling Holt and Edna Goodwin Holt Walker. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Wilma Ladeau Brunner, and daughter, Wendy Ellen Holt.
Robert was a doctor of medicine and received his degree from Loma Linda University. He worked as a Family Doctor in Adirondack Park, NY and as an ER Doctor in Eastern and Western North Carolina. Robert proudly served our country in the US Army during the Korean War. “Dr. Bob” traveled the world and was always planning for another adventure. He loved books, old hymns, researching and exploring ideas, going for walks, and working on his website. In addition to being a physician, he was a writer, artist, musician, and videographer. He loved kids, dogs, and strawberry ice-cream. He provided many opportunities for his family to travel with him, and always showed up for family events. He recently married Linda, his girlfriend of many years, and they were very happy together.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Linda D. Preston; sons, Robert Flewelling Holt Jr (Penelope Louise Neubauer) of Englewood, FL, William Thomas Holt (Susan) of Hendersonville, NC; daughters, Bonnie Ellen Edison (Larry) of New Ipswich, NH, Becky Jeanne Roz of Hadley, NY; sisters, Pat Holt D’Avolio (Charles/Chick) of Flat Rock, NC, Leona G. Phillips (James) of Cleveland, TN, Joyce Y. Cross of Kissimmee, FL; brother, Leon R. Holt (Onycha) of Camden on Gauley, WV; grandsons, Nathan Edison, Jeremiah Holt (Sara), Caleb Holt, William Holt; granddaughters, Sarah Kay (Luis), Elizabeth/Liz R. Roz; four great-grandchildren, with one on the way, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on November 4, 2023 at 3:00PM at Mills River SDA Church. Robert will be interred at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC. Condolences can be made to the family at www.ashevilleareaalternative.com
