Rita Rigney Morrison

Rita Rigney Morrison, 95, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, at Brookdale Walden Ridge in Asheville, North Carolina.

Born on April 24, 1929, in Janesville, Wisconsin, to Farrell and Margaret Rigney, Rita lived a life full of love, adventure, and dedication to family and community. She married the love of her life, Jerome Morrison, on December 29, 1951, in Janesville, Wisconsin, and together they built a beautiful family.

Rita was a devoted mother to her seven children: Mary (Jim) Otahal , Kevin (Kevin) Otis, Martha (Tom) DeGree, Sarah Morrison Bennett, Peter (Sandy) Morrison, Ann Marie Pryor, and Jill (Phil) Morrison. She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Her love for her family was boundless, and she took immense joy in their lives and accomplishments.

An adventurous spirit, Rita loved traveling and was an active member of the Friendship Force of Western North Carolina in her earlier years. She was also a dedicated member of Kiwanis of Asheville, always seeking ways to give back to her community. Whether exploring new places, enjoying the serenity of the mountains, or basking in the beauty of the beach, Rita embraced life with enthusiasm and grace.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry, granddaughter Laura, and great-grandson Hunter, and her siblings: Rose, Joe, Mary and Marne.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.

Rita’s warmth, kindness, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed but forever cherished by those who knew and loved her.
