Rev. Lynda Foster Moore, 85, died on September 22, 2024, in Asheville, N.C. She was born in Spartanburg, S.C., to Edith Keeter and Hugh Moses Foster on March 8,1939. She had a happy childhood in Spartanburg and graduated from Mary Washington College in 1961. She later attended Appalachian State University, earning a master’s in psychology and counseling. She worked in the school systems in Spartanburg and later in Lenoir, N.C.
In 1981 she moved to Atlanta, where she was active in St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, working with the poor and underserved. In 1984 she spent four months in India working with Mother Teresa and the Sisters of Charity, which was a life-altering experience. In 1989 she felt the call to serve God in the church and attended the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va., where she received a Master’s of Divinity in 1992. She served churches in Atlanta, Ga., Tryon, N.C., and Murphy, N.C. When not working in the church, her passion was running.
She was predeceased by her parents and her two brothers, Hugh and David. She is survived by her spouse of over 20 years, Dianna Hays, her daughter Laura Moore Kendrick (David), grandson John Kendrick (Nancy) and two great-grandsons, Cole and William Kendrick. Her niece Lila Olfinger was very dear to her and generously devoted a lot of time to her in the last two years. Other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The last 17 years were rich with friends Zoe and Brenda and those we lovingly call the “Murdock Gang”. Thanks to all the staff at MountainCare Adult Day Center, who gave time and love in the last two and a half years of her life.
A service will be held after we recover from Helene.
