Raymond Higgins Sr., 62, of Burnsville passed away on December 31, 2021 at the home of his wife surrounded by family and friends. Born April 22, 1959 in Burnsville, he is the son of Zulene English Higgins Gardner of Burnsville and the late Ned Higgins. Raymond worked for R.L. Coleman and Company from 1984 to 2011 when he retired. Of his many hobbies, he enjoyed woodworking, working in his flower gardens and landscaping the yard and most of all spending time with his family and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Raymond Higgins Jr., siblings, Neddie Dean Higgins, Chole Ella Higgins Mello; maternal grandmother, Julie King English; nephews, Jeffery D. Higgins and Lawrence D. Gardner; and niece, Crystal G. Banks. Surviving are his spouse of 38 years, Tracy C. Higgins; daughter, Maria Evans of Burnsville; daughter-in-law, Kelly Higgins of Burnsville; siblings, Alma Jean Barnes of Burnsville, Rex Allen Gardner and his spouse, Barbara, of Morganton, Linda Diane Gardner of Burnsville, and Rhonda Marie Cox of Burnsville; grandchildren, Ajay and Bria Evans both of Burnsville; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Raymond’s wishes were to be cremated. He had a personal relationship with God. A dinner in Raymond’s memory will be held January 22, 2022 from 1-4 PM at Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church, 101 N. Main Street, Burnsville, NC. A special thanks to Raymond’s cousins, Jonnie and Perry Forrest; daughter-in-law, Kelly Higgins; and friend, John Jackson for being there to help with his needs and care.
