In Loving Memory of Paul Bernard Gallimore
1947 – 2025
Paul Bernard Gallimore, age 78, of Leicester, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, quiet strength, and a lifelong commitment to environmental consciousness.
Born in 1947, Paul dedicated his life to the care and preservation of the natural world. To put his beliefs into action, he founded the Long Branch Environmental Education Center in 1974. He worked tirelessly to conserve native ecosystems, promote sustainable living, and educate others about the importance of ecological stewardship. His efforts were not just professional—they were deeply personal, woven into the fabric of his daily life and values.
Paul’s home in Leicester was a living testament to his beliefs: a place where nature was nurtured, not tamed. He found joy in the sound of running creeks, the songs of birds, and the quiet resilience of the land he worked to conserve. His legacy lives on in the landscapes he helped preserve and the lives he inspired.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia; their two children, Sherando Joy and Yanu; and grandchildren Madison and Tanner, all of whom carry forward his spirit with love, gratitude, and a shared reverence for the earth.
A memorial service will be held on September 27, 2025 at 1:00 P.M., at Big Sandy United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Long Branch Environmental Education Center, an organization devoted to conservation, ecological education, and sustainable living—values Paul held close to his heart.
“To restore the land one must live and work in a place.
To work in a place is to work with others.
People who work together in a place become a community,
and a community, in time, grows a culture.
To work on behalf of the wild is to restore culture.”
