Mildred "Mink" Laughter

On December 28, 2024, Mildred “Mink” Laughter passed over into her heavenly home after a brief period of declining health. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church. She was 89.

Born in Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Clara Owen Whitmire of Lake Toxaway. She was pre-deceased by her husband William Harrison (Harry) Laughter, Sr., brothers Haskell Whitmire, and Jack Whitmire, and sisters Bernice Merritt, Marlene Brand, Guyma Nicholson and Madith Orr. She is survived by two brothers, Daniel Whitmire (wife Yvette) and John Whitmire (wife Lila) who loved and cared for her and were by her side, especially in her last days.

She is survived by her children, Bill and Diane Laughter, Tony and Nancy Laughter, and Mary Ann and Wayne Morgan. Also her grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew Clark, Alan Morgan and Nikki Galloway, Matthew and Megan Laughter, Justin and Estella Laughter, and B. J. and Shannon Laughter, as well as eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mildred had the heart of a care giver and could be found where the need was. She offered counsel and advice, but never unsolicited. She loved her husband and put him first in all that she did. She was a family member that everyone was grateful for, and will be sorely missed.
