Melvin Wilson McConnell, 78, of Asheville passed away peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2025 at the Solace Center in Asheville, NC. Born December 14, 1946 in Franklin, NC, he was a son of the late Dexter and Edith McConnell. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired from Con Met Cashiers in Cashiers, NC. Melvin was a member of Brookstone Church in Weaverville, NC. Of his many enjoyments in life, bass fishing and spending time with his grandchildren were among his favorites. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Carolyn Farmer and Jean Frisbee; step-son, Rod Hinson; and lifelong friend and fishing buddy, Danny Duckworth. Surviving are his spouse, Alice Jeanette Hinson; children, Jason McConnell and his spouse, Tasha, of Florida, and Miranda Shelton and her spouse, Josh, of Penrose, NC; step-children, Amy Cabe and her spouse, Geoff, of Boiling Springs, SC, and Ronda Hinson of Marshall, NC; siblings, Ricky McConnell and his spouse, Penny, and Alice Bradford and her spouse, Bruce, all of Asheville, NC; grandchildren, Raelyn, Joshua, Rock, Cheyanne, Josh, Austin, Ali, Emily, Ben, and Max; one great grandchild, Adrian; and lifelong friend and fishing buddy, Jerry Brown. A private service will be held with interment at Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
