Mary Lou Hammond Edmonston, peacefully passed from her loving family into the glorious presence of God on July 4th.
Mary Lou was a bright light to everyone she knew, and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a loving wife and mother, and passed on so many enduring, life-enriching qualities to her children. As a long-time member of Groce United Methodist Church, Mary Lou worshipped as a choir member for over forty years, blessing everyone with her beautiful voice. Her personality was electric; she never met a stranger, and was always friendly and engaging.
Mary Lou is survived by her dear husband of 70 years, Jack; her daughter Judy Crotts (Rick); sons Jerry Edmonston (Loretta), John Edmonston, and Eddie Edmonston (Malinda), six grandsons, Andy Crotts (Kirby), Clay Crotts, Jason Edmonston, John Edmonston, Jr. (Jeannie), Donnie Edmonston (Emily), Mark Edmonston (Sabrie), and sister Janice Morrow (Bill). She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents Thelma Searcy Hammond and Blain Hammond, her sisters Juanita Carver, Kay Ponder, her brother Jim Hammond, and a very special great-grandson, “J.J.”, John Harvey Edmonston, III.
She’ll forever be remembered for her beautiful smile, her graciousness, and always putting her family’s needs before her own.
A celebration of life service will take place on July 18th, 1:00 p.m., at Groce United Methodist Church, 954 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.
