Martha deJarnette

Martha deJarnette died peacefully on June 14, 2025 of complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. Born March 6, 1948 in Jacksonville, Florida she lived most of her life in Charlottesville, Virginia and Asheville, North Carolina. She had a successful and satisfying career in real estate. A lover of music, art, cooking, nature, travel, and people, she embraced love and kindness at every turn and with every experience. Martha’s being defined the word equanimity. She was fortunate to meet the love of her life in 1991 and to spend 34 years with him. Together, they traveled the country and the world, relishing each minute of every encounter. Anyone who intersected with Martha was all the better for it. She was generous with her compassion, affection, patience. No one would want for a beautiful smile and a kind word if Martha was there. She loved David, homegrown tomatoes, dancing to the funk music of Bootsy Collins, mangoes, camping, posole, Virginia bluebells, the Mikado, and key lime pie.  Martha leaves behind her husband, David Winship, three siblings, two children and one grandchild. She will be deeply missed.
