Mark Dewayne Helton, 53, of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away on February 18, 2026.
Mark was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Chris Smith of Asheville; his children, Janette Robinson (Dustin), Jamie Helton (Rayan), Jacey Helton (Jadon), and Gabrielle Penland (Malik); and his cherished grandchildren, Aidan Penland, Xavier Penland, Malachi Campbell and Kylen Campbell. He is also survived by his sisters, Melissa Helton and Sheila Helton.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Helton; his father, Grady Helton; and his brothers, Terry Helton and Rob Helton.
Mark dedicated many years to a career in the paint and body industry, where his talent as a painter earned the respect of those who worked alongside him. He took pride in his craft and had an eye for detail that set his work apart. To his family, Mark was the one who could fix anything—and most of the time, he did. Whether it was something broken in the house or a problem someone couldn’t solve, he was always the one they turned to.
An avid NASCAR fan, Mark enjoyed the thrill of the race and the simple pleasure of cheering on his favorite drivers. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it was with unfiltered, raw truth often mixed with a touch of humor that those who loved him will never forget.
Mark will be remembered for his strength, his skill, his honesty, and the deep love he had for his family. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services will be announced at a later date.
