Margie B. Hughey Johnston, 94, of Asheville passed away peacefully on Monday, December 7, 2020 at her home with her grandson by her side. Born May 1, 1926 in Asheville, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Nell Hughey. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and enjoyed planting and caring for her peony roses, working in her yard, crossword puzzles, and helping others. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her spouse, Leslie C. Johnston; son, David Cordell; and brothers, Don and Bill Hughey. Surviving are her daughter, Libby Whitmire of Brevard, NC; sister, Hazel Cannon of Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Joe Nagle of Asheville, NC, Cody Holcombe of Sioux Falls, SD, and Annie Holcombe of Asheville, NC; and great granddaughter, Arianne Lott of Asheville, NC. A private graveside ceremony will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church for family only due to Covid-19. Memorials may be sent to Joseph Nagle at 573 Upper Grassy Branch Extension, Asheville, NC 28805. The family would like to acknowledge Cindy and Everett Bartlett who were ever present and comforting during this difficult time.
