Margaret Franklin Coates

Margaret Franklin Coates, 94, of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at the Care Partners Solace Center on September 28, 2021. She was born in Chattanooga, TN to the late LeRoy Washburn Franklin and Lois Margaret Blair Franklin. Margaret was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family. Preceding her in death were her husband, Fred Bryan Coates; their son, Donald LeRoy Coates; two grandsons, Daniel Lamar Coates and Adam Wesley Coates; her parents; her sister, Harriet Franklin Dale and her husband William (Bill); and her brother-in-law, L. Earl Coates and his wife Louise Coates. Margaret was a faithful member of Beverley Hills Baptist Church and previously Reed Memorial Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary for 30 years. She loved singing in the church choir, teaching children music, and teaching Sunday School. Her relationship with Christ and her family were anchors in her life and she was deeply loved and respected by many. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Margaret leaves a legacy of pie baking to those she cherished the most. She is survived by her son, Fred Bryan Coates Jr. (Beverly), her daughters, Frances Margaret Coates and Angela Coates Walsh (Keith); and her grandchildren, Brain Christopher Coates (Allison), Taylor Aaron Brown (Melanie), Ashley Marie Brown, Caitlyn Nicole Brown, Emily Grace Walsh, Austin James Walsh, and Maria Elizabeth Walsh. She is also survived by her loving sister Carolyn Franklin Harper, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Care Partners Solace Center for their excellent care and compassion. A celebration of life service will be held at Beverly Hills Baptist Church on November 26, 2021, at 1:00 pm. Visitation with the family will follow.
