Louise Mae Smith, 98, of Black Mountain, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center in Asheville. Born May 15, 1923 in Wisconsin, she was a daughter of the late William and Edna Hammer. She was a graduate of Turtle Lake High School class of 1941. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first spouse, Harley E. Hyre Jr. and her second spouse, James A. Smith; siblings: Anna Houk, Charles Hammer, Otto Hammer, Helen Seehan, Richard Hammer, and Gertrude Peterson, and son-in-law, Dennis Cummins. Surviving is her daughter, Martha Cummins of Black Mountain; and grandchildren: Michael, Sara, and Brendon Cummins. No services will be held at this time.
