Laura Cecile Clay

Laura Cecile Clay, 64, of Candler, NC passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at her home.  Born March 7, 1957 in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of Cathy Lewis West of Centreville, VA.  Laura attended St. Ann’s Catholic School in Arlington, VA and  J.E.B. Stuart High School in Falls Church, VA.  After graduating high school, she relocated to Asheville, N.C.  It was there in Asheville, where Laura went on to further her education. She graduated cum laude from the University of North Carolina Asheville, where she received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree.  Prior to retiring for health reasons, Laura was employed as a Social Worker in Asheville.  She loved all living creatures, enjoyed nature, and was a creative poet.  In addition to her mother,  she is survived by her children: Adia M. Clay of Weaverville, NC, Salim A. Clay, Nuri Clay, and Tche Clay all of Asheville, NC; and grandchildren: Tukki Bounds, Shakir McKinley, Khalil Manuel Clay, Ayatta Marisol Clay, and Amalia Karin Clay all of Asheville, NC.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Green Hills Cemetery in Asheville, NC.
