Kathleen Holmes

Kathleen "Kathy" Holmes died on August 13th, 2021 at her home in Asheville, NC after a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in 2019. She was 64.

Kathy was a skilled ceramicist and artist. She spent a year studying pottery in Japan, creating her own glazes and crafting her own style, and showcased her work throughout the East coast. She also served as a graphic designer and art director at Asheville's own Lark Books for more than 20 years. In her professional, artistic, and personal life, she was a mentor to many. Even after her diagnosis, she maintained an avid passion for her art projects and her grandchildren.

Kathy was born in Bristol, Indiana to Keith and Nancy Holmes. In 1982, she and her spouse Craig Weis fell in love with the mountains and moved to Asheville, where they pursued a collective artistic vision: Kathy started her pottery studio and Craig founded Architectural Woodcraft. Kathy quickly became an active and beloved member of her neighborhood community in Kenilworth.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 39 years Craig Weis; her children Jessamyn and Karla and son-in-law Kyle Williams; her grandchildren Alta Williams, Rye Williams, and soon-to-be-born baby Williams; and her brother John Holmes, sister-in-law Kim Fischer, and nephew Nathan Holmes.

Her family is grateful for the outpouring of support Kathy received throughout her illness from the countless neighbors, colleagues, and friends whom she touched. In lieu of flowers, they suggest making a donation to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Kathy's celebration of life service is POSTPONED until Spring 2022.
