Joseph Knight Obituary

With profound sadness yet deep gratitude for his life, we announce the passing of Joseph Willard Knight, who left this world peacefully on March 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 21, 1957, in Charlottesville, Virginia, Joe's journey through life was marked by kindness, unwavering faith, and a steadfast commitment to those he loved.

The beloved son of the late Willard Clyde Knight and Louise Woodson Fristoe, Joe was a beacon of warmth and strength to his family. He is predeceased by his cherished niece, Heather Nicole Haga, whose memory he held close to his heart. Joe's legacy endures through the lives of those he leaves behind: his devoted wife and angel of 29 years, Frankie Knight, who was the center of his world; his stepfather Ira Fristoe; his brother Sam Knight (Jenny); sisters Lisa Fitzgerald (Roy) and Linda Arbutine; and his stepsisters Lori Campbell (David), and Cindy Durham.

His sons Richie Tucker (Lisa), and Randall Tucker (Amanda), who he loved with all his heart. His grandsons, Corbin Tucker (Abby), Cooper Tucker, and Dalton Douglass (Lauren), were blessed to have Joe's gentle guidance and love. He was delighted to be blessed with great-grandchildren, Swayzie and Merritt Douglass.

He loved his nephew, Austin Arbutine, and shared a very special bond with his nieces, Ginger Knight (Hunter), Alexandra Gomez (Gabriel), and Anna Fitzgerald (Matthew). Joe's heart extended to his step-nieces, Maddie and Taryn Beamish, and his grand-nephew and niece, Dario and Daniela Gomez.

A devout Christian, Joe's faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him with grace and humility. His kind heart and supportive nature left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. Never one to judge, Joe was a father figure to his family and a pillar of support for friends and strangers alike. His love for his wife Frankie was a testament to his character, as he often referred to her as his angel on earth.

Joe’s passion for life extended beyond his family. A true enthusiast of the University of Virginia athletic programs, he was also a lifelong Los Angeles Rams super fan, cheering them all on with fervor and dedication.  He also leaves behind his constant companion and faithful dog of 17 years, Sweetpea, who brought him great comfort, especially in his final days.

In these moments of grief, the family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Mission Hospital in Asheville. Special gratitude is due to his hospice nurse, Claire, whose comforting words and compassionate care provided solace during Joe's final days. In lieu of a funeral, the family will host a memorial service at a later date to celebrate Joe's remarkable life.

Joe's presence in our lives was a gift we will forever treasure. As we bid him farewell, we carry forward his legacy of love, faith, and kindness, which will continue to inspire us and all those who knew him.
