He served as an overnight shift manager and was a profound cheerleader for the organization. Never did he waiver in his commitment to sobriety and he always looked forward to going to work each and every night no matter what. He was a strong stable force whom at times came across as grumpy, but the real John would always shine through with love, compassion, dedication, knowledge, and a friendly ear to many residents throughout his years. John was an integral part of the fabric of Next Step Recovery and will be sorely missed. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Kevin G. Murphy and James J. Murphy.
