Jerome A. Eyer, 86, of Asheville, passed away Sunday May 16th. After proudly serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, he went on to receive his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Missouri and his PhD from the University of Colorado. He traveled worldwide as a petroleum engineer for oil companies throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Jerry retired from teaching at the University of South Carolina, and most recently from Biltmore Estate after 17 years as a tour guide for the Biltmore House and Estate. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde A. and Jane Finch Eyer, and a brother, Leland Eyer. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joy D. Eyer, of Asheville; son, John A. Eyer (Elizabeth), of Charlotte; daughter, Joell Steininger (Michael), of Asheville; and three grandchildren, Julia, Jozsef, and Gabrielle. Of his many enjoyments in life reading, writing, painting, philosophy, history, gardening, and his general love of nature were among his favorites. Jerry was an Emeritus Member in AAPG. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
