Jayne Ann Levy Gallinger, 92, of Asheville, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 22, 2024. She was born on February 23, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Sam Levy and Nettie Knopfer Levy.
Jayne graduated from Brooklyn College with a BA in Education (where she met her husband Herb) and earned a Masters of Library Science from UNC Greensboro. Herb and Jayne were members of Congregation Beth Ha Tephila in Asheville. Jayne had a lifelong passion for the arts, and was a docent at the Greensboro, Grand Rapids and Asheville Art Museums. She owned a successful bookstore in Grand Rapids called The Book Tree. Jayne loved nature and frequently visited the NC Arboretum. She loved to travel, read (including with her book club), hike (including with the Asheville Amblers), play bridge and above all else spend time with family and friends.
Surviving Jayne is her loving spouse of 72 years, Herbert Gallinger of Asheville, NC; and children, Jay Gallinger of Chapel Hill, NC, Roy Gallinger (and his wife Cynthia) of Sylva, NC, Scott Gallinger of Apex, NC, Dan Gallinger (and his wife Betsy Topitzer) of Maplewood, NJ.
