Janice Fay Williams McCracken, age 86, of Swannanoa, NC passed away on July 5, 2025. Janice was born on October 31, 1938, in Roanoke, AL to the late Howard Franklin Williams and Sallie Shaw Williams.
Janice is preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. McCracken Jr. and her sister, Dian Williams Ciccarello. Janice is survived by her daughters: Meridith Stoneman (Jim), of Anacortes, WA, Kristi Yates (David) of Marietta, GA, and Robyn Thomason (Lee) of Swannanoa, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jared Stoneman of Seattle, WA, Eric Stoneman of Anacortes, WA, Hunter Thomason of Swannanoa, NC, Chase Thomason of Swannanoa, NC, Ethan Yates of Marietta, GA, and Mackenzie Yates of Marietta, GA.
Janice graduated with a BA in Secondary Education from Jacksonville State University in 1960 where she was also a cheerleader. She was a P.E. teacher at Brown High School in Atlanta, GA until 1968 and a long-time substitute teacher at Huffman High School in Birmingham, AL. She sang with a big band and loved to read. She was a member of Huffman United Methodist Church in Birmingham beginning in 1971 and sang in the chancel choir. After moving to Swannanoa, NC in 2019, she was thrilled when she could begin to virtually attend worship services at HUMC, which she did until her passing.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 10 am with a memorial service following at 11 am at the Huffman United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL. A private burial will take place at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
