James Hunter White, 64, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, November 20th here at his home in Asheville. Hunter was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on September 5th, 1958. A resident of Asheville in his younger years, Hunter’s journey in life took him from the mountains of North Carolina to California, Texas, Maryland and around the oceans as the captain of sailboats, returning to the mountains to build climbing towers and to be near family. Hunter is survived by his son Colin White of Asheville (former wife Cathie Phelps), his parents John and Mary Leonard White of Black Mountain, brother Pete White (Cyndi Rapenske), brother Andy White (Nancy Branberg), brother Phil White, sister Katherine Conklin (Tom), sister Margaret Brown (Warren) as well as nephews and nieces John Ponder White, Jacob White, Elise Kimpflen, Peter Conklin, Callum Conklin, Olivia Brown and Elliott Brown.
Hunter was loved by all who knew him for his beautiful and quick smile, booming laughter, warm heart, witty sense of humor, and his continued dedication to family and friends. He loved life and used it all up.
