James “Kaywood” Smart went home to be with our heavenly Father on July 30, 2018. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and adventures spent with family and friends. Kaywood will always be remembered for his big smile, love of his family, and love for corvettes. He cherished the many friendships he acquired over his lifetime. His greatest pleasure was to enjoy time spent with his only grandson, Scotty Kaywood Hicks.
Kaywood was the owner of J. K. Smart’s Towing. He was a life-long native of Buncombe County and a 1967 graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School. Mr. Smart was also a veteran of the United States Navy.
Mr. Smart is survived by his daughter, Tia Kyvette Hicks; son-in-law, Jeff Hicks; and grandson, Scotty Kaywood Hicks. Also surviving is his sister, Linda Smart Lamun; brother, Roger Radcliff; ex-wife, Belinda Smart; husband-in-law, Byron Morgan; and his beloved crazy cousin, Barbara Ayers; along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the friends who have become like family by supporting Kaywood in his years of declining health.
Mr. Smart was preceded in death by his father and mother, Leander Perkins Smart Jr. and Virginia Carter Smart; by brothers, L.P. “PeeGee” Smart III and Fred Smart; and by sisters, Carole Smart Ward and Deanna Smart.
