James Earl Simmons

James Earl Simmons, age 71, of Asheville, NC passed away peacefully after a long battle with early onset Alzheimer’s at Emerald Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.  He went to meet his Lord and join his wife, Nancy on September 30, 2025.  James was born on June 3, 1954 to the late James Augustus Simmons and Helen Sudar Simmons.

James graduated with a Bachelors degree in music from the University of Arizona and also with a Masters degree in business.  James was a bass player, father, car enthusiast, and builder that loved Jesus.

James is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Simmons.  He is survived by his daughters, Sommer Councell, of Charlotte, NC, and Carrie Simmons, of Asheville, NC, and his grandchildren, Ethan “James” Councell, of Charlotte, NC, and Hazel Mae Councell, of Charlotte, NC.

A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date.
