James Michael Runyon, eighty-three, died April 13, 2025, at home in Asheville, North Carolina. He was born January 16, 1942, to the late Bronze and May Starr Runyon in Logan County, West Virginia.
James served in the United States Navy. He was a volunteer at Care Partners for many years after retiring. James was an overcomer. While life seemed to present him the worst obstacles, he faced them with resilience and perseverance. He did it with a smile.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, Harley Runyon, and sister, Vivian Castle.
His is survived by Manila Smith Runyon, his love and life partner; children, Michelle Richards (Dale) of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Tommy Runyon of Weaverville, North Carolina, Eddie Runyon of Gastonia, North Carolina and James Michael Runyon, Jr., (Michelle) of Asheville; grandchildren, Alexis Solesbee (Scotty Appleton) of Asheville, Mark Solesbee (Katey) of Canton, North Carolina, Sarahi Richards of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Chelsea Justice (William) of Asheville, and Alisha Justice (Michael) of Asheville; and by seven great-grandchildren.
A private Celebration of Life will be held May 3rd, 2025.
