James Edward “J.D.” Deese

James Edward “J.D.” Deese, age 78, of Weaverville, NC, passed away May 6, 2026, in Asheville, NC. Born June 18, 1947, in Union County, he was the son of the late Servia Young Deese and grandson of the late Mary Young.

James served his community through his work at A.B. Tech and as a social worker, and was a member of Hill Street Baptist.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dolores Hagan Deese; daughters, Quanda Deese Hammonds (Bass) of Union County and Allyson Merri Deese of Asheville; son, James Edward Deese Jr. (Glenda) of Union County; and step-son, Michael P. Hagan of Asheville.

He also leaves behind siblings Franklin Deese of Union County, Brenda Deese Thompson of Matthews, NC, and James Hubert Barrino (Gloria) of Union County; granddaughters Kyana and Kendrea Deese of Union County; and six great-grandchildren.
