Hugh B. Slusser, 91, a longtime resident of Asheville passed away on November 21, 2022. Hugh was born to Eglantine Beard Slusser and Harry C. Slusser in Rockbridge County, VA, where he attended New Providence Presbyterian Church. Faith and music were deeply important to him throughout his life. Hugh graduated from Wake Forest in 1952 with a degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, Hugh served as U.S. Army training office at Fort Knox, Ky. His time in the military was very meaningful and helped provide a firm foundation for his business career. For many years, Hugh was a Realtor and real estate appraiser for the NC DOT, and then later, an auctioneer. Hugh enjoyed volunteering for the community and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Asheville. On his daily walks at Beaver Lake, he thought it was a bit like heaven. Hugh is survived by son Hugh B. Slusser II; daughter Margaret Elizabeth Hall; grandsons Andrew and Nelson Hall, and nieces Carole Deerin and Jan Menniti. Also surviving Hugh is his long-time companion cat Smokey, who is still in good health. Interment will be at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
