Gwendolyn Smiley Ray

Gwendolyn Smiley Ray, 64, of Candler passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Carepartners Solace Center in Asheville, NC. Born October 23, 1959 in Asheville, NC, she was a daughter of the late Dewayne Smiley and Faye Trantham. She was a lover of music, enjoyed reading a good book, and cherished time spent with her family. Surviving are her children, Christy Sprouse and Nicole Gibbs both of Asheville, NC; siblings, Brett Smiley of Old Fort, NC, and Kim Smiley Sales of Fletcher, NC; grandchildren, Ronnie Spouse of Jacksonville, NC, John Sprouse of Asheville, NC Joshua Potter of Asheville, NC, and Andrew Weaver of Candler, NC; great-grandson, Lukas Potter of Asheville, NC; nephews, Thomas Reynolds, Ryan Smiley, and Dustin Foxx; niece, Emily Smiley; several great nephews and nieces; special friend David Derrick of Candler.  A service will be held at Asheville Area Alternative Funeral Home on July 6 2024  at 3 pm . A reception will be held after the service at Riceville Presbyterian Church, 2342 Riceville Road, Asheville, NC 28805.
