Gladys Yon, 93, of Etowah, North Carolina, passed away on February 5, 2021. Gladys was born in Gatewood, West Virginia on March 24, 1927 to Clarence McKinley and Irene Settle Epperly, the 4th of 8 children. After graduating from high school, she married Clemmie Yon and resided in West Virginia until the couple relocated to Ft. Lauderdale Florida with their young son. Gladys was active in her church in Ft. Lauderdale and worked as administrator of a roofing company for 32 years. She and her husband retired to Melbourne, Florida in 1990, where she was active in the First Baptist Church of Melbourne, working with young children as well as a seafarers’ ministry. Gladys moved to Etowah, North Carolina in 2006 with her son and daughter-in-law where she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville and the Light Seekers Sunday School Class since then. In addition to her parents, Gladys was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, her sisters Catherine Epperly, Bette Parr, Hilda Schwerdt, Frieda Buckland, Nira Flint and her brothers Earl and Clarence Jr. (Dick). Mrs. Yon is survived by her son, David C. Yon and daughter-in-law, Ellen Rose of Etowah; grandson David P. Yon and his wife, Sandra Vaucher of Ft. Lauderdale; granddaughter Theresa Yon and her husband, Glenn Romano of Greensboro; step granddaughter, Jessica Libecap and her husband, Justin, and great grandchildren Rylan and Zachary Libecap, of Raleigh as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service is pending. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made in Mrs. Yon’s memory to the Light Seekers Sunday School Class: First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, 312 5th Avenue West, Hendersonville, NC 28739.
