Gary Moody Obituary

Gary Michael Moody (Mike), age 69 of Asheville, NC, passed away on July 4th 2020.  Mike is preceded in death by his father, Joe Ervin Moody and is survived by his wife Gail McMeans Moody, his mother Sue Cline Moody, his brother Terry Moody and wife Sherry and his children Kent, Hilary, Ryan and their families.
Mike grew up in Swannanoa, NC and attended Owen High School where he was voted most dependable and made Gail laugh in French class.  Mike attended North Carolina State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.  While at NCSU, he saw a familiar face walking across the brickyard and realizing it was one of the McMeans twins from Owen, he called out, "Hey Gail or Gwen!"  It was Gail and so began a romance of 47yrs.  After graduating, Mike and Gail married and lived briefly in Raleigh then settled in East Asheville.
Mike and Gail raised 3 children.  Mike was an amazing husband and father and enjoyed spending time with Gail and his kids.  Mike and Gail love projects and restored a home that was built in 1929 and enjoyed restoring and reupholstering antique furniture.  To his wife and kids, Mike was unwavering love, acceptance and encouragement.  To others, Mike was a constant source of friendship, wisdom, technical expertise and dependability.  Mike had many talents and many gifts, and he showed us the most excellent way, he showed us unconditional love.  Mike is proud of his family and we're grateful for the life he lived, the time he shared with us, and everything he taught us.
Mike worked for Carolina Power and Light / Progress Energy / Duke Energy and if you live in the Asheville area, Mike was the essential engineer who restored your power during snow storms and other significant weather events.  Mike was a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of NC and was loved, admired and respected by his co-workers and he loved them.  Mike was an inveterate inventor, teacher, and mentor.
Mike fought valiantly with Alzheimer's Dementia for the past 9yrs. and Gail has been his constant companion, caretaker, and source of strength.  It took a village to see Mike through this process, Gwen, Terry, Sherry, Sue, all the friends, family, neighbors and the amazing staff at the Laurels at Summit Ridge, thank you, we love you dearly.  Your love, support and generosity have carried Mike and Gail through this protracted illness.  We know that Mike is present with the Lord in the fullness of mind and Spirit and we hope you will rejoice with us over the life of this kind and brilliant man.  Let freedom ring, we love you Mike!
