Frederick A. Miner, age 78, peacefully passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020 in Asheville, North Carolina. He was born in Paterson, New Jersey on November 20, 1941 and grew up in Clayton, New York. Fred’s greatest devotion was to his country and steadfast military service. He first enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, after his honorable discharge from the Marines, he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in the Vietnam War from 1967-68. He continued serving in the USAF until retirement reaching the final rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Upon retiring from the military, he served as a federal employee working for the Office of Personnel Management, concluding his extraordinary combined military and federal career spanning over 45 years. His dedicated and faithful service to his country was of the utmost pride to himself and influenced his children’s decision to enlist in the United States Navy and United States Army.
He is survived by his ex-wife and devoted companion Barbara Miner of Asheville; daughter Valerie Miner (USN Ret) of New Bern NC; son Steven (Donna) Miner of Mansfield, Pennsylvania; brothers William and Arthur Miner; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In honor of his wishes, there will be no services. A private graveside memorial with military honors will occur at the convenience of the family.
