Frank Wolf Obituary

Frank E. Wolf, 92, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, at Valor Hospice at the VA Hospital in Asheville, with his beloved wife, Sandy Lance, and their cherished dog, Crisp R., by his side.

Born in Dessau, Germany, in 1933, Frank grew up in Berlin and moved frequently around the country during World War II. After the war, he joined his sister Barbara in Detroit, Michigan. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a translator in Japan for three years during which time he proudly became a U.S. citizen.

Following his service, Frank attended Davis & Elkins College and later earned a Master of Science from Brooklyn Polytechnic. At the age of 64, he achieved a lifelong goal by earning a Ph.D. from Nova SE University in International Business Administration.

In the early years of his career, Frank lived in New York City, often spending weekends in Westport, Connecticut, with his mother, sister, niece Stephanie, and nephew Chris. To Stephanie and Chris, Frank was more than an uncle he was a devoted father figure. He offered wisdom, comfort, fun, and unconditional support. Those years were marked by beach outings, ski trips, visits to Carvel, and weekends full of laughter and love.

While working for American Can, Frank met Sandy Lance-the love of his life. During that time, he also participated in the Presidential Interchange Executive (PIE) program under the Nixon administration. In 1980, Frank and Sandy founded On-Line Research, a testament to their shared entrepreneurial spirit. He also served as a volunteer NGO representative to the United Nations, embracing his global outlook and deep commitment to service.

Later in life, Frank became a certified FINRA arbitrator, relishing the intellectual challenge of each case. He served as an adjunct professor at Nova University for over 20 years, frequently traveling to Florida and the Caribbean to teach on weekends. In his final decade, Frank became deeply interested in Artificial Intelligence, serving as a Business Ethics Advisor and author. He was working on a book up until his final days.

Frank had a remarkable ability to build lifelong friendships. He formed close bonds through every chapter of his life with colleagues, students, neighbors, and fellow travelers. Whether sharing stories over a good meal, offering thoughtful advice, or simply being present when needed, Frank made people feel seen and valued.

After Hurricane Helene, Frank and Sandy opened their home to neighbors whose homes had been destroyed, offering coffee, breakfast, and dinner prepared by Sandy with what they had and what others contributed. This generous act of community sharing forged dear friendships and created a strong, supportive neighborhood community.

Frank is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandy Lance; his nephew Christopher Peterson; his niece Stephanie Jones and her husband, Paul. When Paul asked Frank for permission to marry Stephanie, Frank warmly welcomed him as family and excitedly asked, "So what does that make us-nephew-in-law?" He is also survived by a wide circle of extended family and friends, bonds forged and nurtured through decades of love and connection.

He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Wolf Peterson, and his childhood friend, Liselotte Siegmund.

To all who knew him, Frank was a remarkable man-steadfast, brilliant, and kind. He pursued knowledge relentlessly, maintained a disciplined fitness routine well into his 90s, and embraced every opportunity to explore the world. Just five months before his passing, he and Sandy enjoyed a trip to Belize. He celebrated his 75th birthday in London and his 90th in Edinburgh, both surrounded by his family and dearest friends.

Frank was deeply compassionate, fun-loving, and unwavering in his devotion to those he loved. He was a source of strength, wisdom, and joy-a true rock for his family and friends.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Valor Hospice for their compassionate care during Frank's three-month stay.

A celebration of Frank's life will be held at a later date.
