Faye Barrow Obituary

Margaret "Faye" (née Johnson) Barrow, age 83, of Cattail Creek, Burnsville, North Carolina, died on June 13, 2026, at CarePartners Solace Hospice Center in Asheville.

Born in Charleston, South Carolina, on November 18, 1942, Faye was the daughter of the late Alfred Gustave Johnson and Mary Isgette Johnson.  She spent her youth in several cities, residing in Charleston, Charlotte and Jacksonville.  She graduated from Lee High School in Jacksonville before attending Florida Southern College in Lakeland.

Faye enjoyed a career with Delta Air Lines, where she started in Reservations progressing to sales and marketing positions.  After settling in Burnsville, where she lived for 31 years, she became deeply involved in her community.  She was a faithful member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.  Faye had a passion for traveling the world and attending church ladies' luncheons.  Above all, she cherished time spent with her family.

Faye became a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O) sisterhood as a charter member of Chapter DA, Burnsville in 2019.  She was a loving and loyal member and will be missed.  Her legacy to Chapter DA will always be the "nickname" she created for the chapter letters DA - "The Dream Assisters" - women helping women reach their dreams through education.  At Mountain Heritage High School this past May, through the P.E.O. Foundation, $28,000 was awarded to 14 young ladies to help with their education.

Faye was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Daniel R. Barrow, Sr., her brother, "Buddy" A.G. Johnson, Jr., her father in 1969, and her mother in 2013.

She is survived by her loving family, including her children, Daniel R. Barrow, Jr. and his wife, Ingrida, of Tallahassee, Florida, and Kristi Barrow Martin and her husband, Tim, of Ledger, North Carolina; sister, Debra J. Burch of Banner Elk; granddaughter, Larkin Tulia Thompson and her husband, Chaz, and her great-granddaughter, Lila Noelle Thompson, all of Morganton.  Faye is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, located at 372 Reservoir Road, Burnsville, North Carolina 28714.  Rev. Vic Mansfield and Rev. Kerry Davis will celebrate. Faye requested celebrants to wear bright colors to her service.
