Ellen "Ellie" Marie Bethel

Ellen Marie (“Ellie”)Bethel moved on to her paradise early in the morning of October 2, 2023. She spent her final days surrounded by her family and loved ones in Asheville, NC.

Ellie was a devoted mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and friend. If you were lucky enough to call yourself one of those, you know just how lucky you are. She took care of those she loved with her whole self. She was the steadfast anchor of her family.

She born on October 23rd, 1938, and brought up in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, NYC from which she never lost her incredible accent nor her gritty work ethic or street-smarts. Her greatest achievements lie in the family that she molded and left behind and with whom her impression will be everlasting. She is survived by her daughter Mary Ellen (“Emmy”) Bethel and her grandchildren Maya Amapola Marin and Malcolm Striker Lyon as well as her sisters Josephine Graziano and Patricia Hidalgo. Upon arrival in paradise, she will be met by her husband Michael Bethel.

There will be a mass for her on November 3rd at Saint Mary’s in Kingston, New York at 11 AM, where she and Michael will finally be laid to rest.

A mass on January 16 at 7:30 in the morning will also be said for her in Asheville, North Carolina at Basilica Saint Lawrence.
