Elizabeth Ann Chandler Lewis began the next stage of her journey back to stardust on March 29, 2021.
Ann lived the first 25 years of her life in South Florida, however her spirit has always resided in Western North Carolina. As explained so beautifully in Lee Smith’s “Fair and Tender Ladies”, she needed some mountains to rest her eyes against.
She enjoyed writing and was especially gratified when her published pieces could make people learn, consider another option, or the best, laugh.
Ann’s volunteer work was directed towards environmental causes and the kind treatment of the earth’s creatures. She was one of the founders of Gaston County (NC) Humane Society and Lake Wylie Water Watch in York County, SC. In Asheville she served on the Board of Directors of Meals on Wheels, RiverLink, Helpmate, and the Asheville Humane Society. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association.
Ann is survived by her husband Bob of 52 years, and cousin Robert Henry. Special love and memories to her sisters and brothers, The Unicorns.
At Ann’s request, there will be no service. She asks that anyone who wishes to remember her just sit back, sip a favorite beverage, listen to some jazz, and let their good memories wander. Perhaps they could also consider adopting (or fostering) a homeless animal.
Memorial donations may be made to Manna Food Bank, 627 Swannanoa River Road, Asheville, NC 28805 or Asheville Humane Society, 14 Forever Friend Lane, Asheville, NC 28806.
Ann’s ashes will be scattered in the mountains on a cool breezy day, with a little left for the ocean on an outgoing tide.
