Eleanor Lorraine Krall

April 13, 1933 ~ August 11, 2023 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Obituary

Eleanor Lorraine Krall passed away on August 11, 2023, at the age of 90, in Asheville, NC. Eleanor was predeceased by her beloved grandmother, Leona “Nonnie” Williams, her parents, George Wheeler and Wilma Wheeler Coon, and her sisters Harriet and Maxine. She is survived by her half-brother Rodney. Her husband of 70 years, Joseph Krall, preceded her in death in 2021, and her son David in 2022. She is survived by her children, Gary, Jeff, Brad and Valerie; grandchildren Brian, Justin and Davonna; great-grandchild Devi; and daughters-in-law Yvonne, Robbie, Tamara, Tammy and Clay.

Eleanor was born in Thompson, PA, on April 13, 1933. She graduated from Thompson High School where she and Joe met. They married in 1951. Eleanor lived and worked briefly in Binghamton, NY before she and Joe began their family. Their first child, David, was born while Joe was away serving in the Korean War. Eleanor and Joe purchased and operated a dairy farm in Thompson, PA where they raised their five children. Many memories were made at the family farm where relatives and friends gathered frequently. Eleanor was a woman of few words and (extremely) dry humor. She spoke her mind when she thought it necessary, such as attending a school board meeting to reference a newly passed Title IX so that sports opportunities for her daughter and other girls would not be downsized. Eleanor and Joe relocated to Concord, NC in 1981 to escape the cold winters of Northeastern PA. Eleanor worked at IBM and at UNC-Charlotte as well as substitute teaching. She sought opportunities to take classes wherever she could throughout her life. She was an avid Scrabble player and Jeopardy fan who enjoyed listening to classical music, playing piano, and teaching herself to speak Spanish. She and Joe travelled often and regularly went dancing with friends. Eleanor chose to downsize and move to Asheville, NC in January of 2023. She was able to celebrate her 90th birthday with family in April. Eleanor was one-of-a-kind and will be missed by many.

She did not wish to have a funeral or memorial service. She chose the option of cremation, and immediate family will gather privately though welcome the sharing of any memories.
