Edwin D. Sampayan

Edwin D. Sampayan, 65, of Asheville, passed away on April 14, 2026. Born in California on July 31, 1960, he was the son of the late Lorenzo and Carmen Sampayan. Edwin was also preceded in death by his sister, Yolanda Fischer.

A man of many talents and a deep love for music, Edwin found great joy in playing the piano and guitar, and sharing his gift of singing while leading worship. He loved the outdoors - especially waterfalls and places where there were colorful vibrant florals. Edwin felt it a privilege to be employed where he worked and did not take that privilege for granted - they became his extended family. He was also an avid cook and a dedicated member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He loved his family, his friends, his co-workers, his country, but especially he loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Marcella Sampayan; his children, Andrew Sampayan of Hendersonville, Kayla Hoffman (Ian) of Asheville; his sister, Donna Ertle (Jeff) of California. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He will be missed beyond measure.

A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held at Foster Seventh-day Adventist Church, 375 Hendersonville Rd, Asheville, NC 28803 at 6:00 PM on Friday, July 31, 2026.
