Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Lingerfelt Queen, aged 86, of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
Dorothy was born on March 13, 1939, in Asheville, North Carolina, to the late Dennis Elmore Lingerfelt and Rosalind Caledonia McEntyre. She dedicated several years to her work at Gudger’s Florist. A woman of diverse talents and interests, Dorothy found great joy in crafts, floral arranging, fly fishing, bird watching, gardening, and crocheting.
In addition to her father, Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Barry Lane Melton.
Dorothy’s memory will be cherished by her devoted children: Suzanne (Alex) Netherton of Asheville, NC; Gary (Denise) Melton of Bakersville, NC; and Chad (Beth) Melton of Hendersonville, NC. She is also survived by her sisters, Rosemary Moran Lingerfelt and Nancy Lingerfelt. Dorothy leaves a legacy through her five grandchildren—Christopher Melton and Alexa Melton of Black Mountain, NC; Lane Melton of Hendersonville, NC; Ariel (Michal) Halka of Etowah, NC; and Lauren Norris of Arden, NC—as well as her four great-grandchildren: Grace Melton and Scottie-Rae Melton of Black Mountain, NC, and Darian Halka and Emrys Halka of Etowah, NC.
